Fifty-two years after LSD was outlawed in New Zealand, the University of Auckland is seeking the final approvals to study the effects of small doses of LSD on human health and wellbeing. University of Auckland associate professor Suresh Muthukumaraswamy, will be in charge of the study.
The study will work with a group of 40 healthy male volunteers, alternating unbeknownst to the participants between a placebo and LSD. The work will be in the form of a randomised controlled trial.
Mr. Muthukumaraswamy states: “Essentially, people will be given the doses for the first time in the lab, and then they’ll be given doses to take home, and then they’ll be done under very sort of strict, controlled conditions where they take it at very precise times, and then we’ll measure the cognitive outcomes at precise times,” he explained.”
